Divine Living: Providing Person-Centered Care for children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities in Nebraska and Iowa

How NEF helped Divine Living establish a brick-and-mortar location

“If we learned anything from the pandemic, it’s that we’re better together. Living in isolation is not ideal – for any of us.”

This foundational concept of putting people first and leading with compassion guides Divine Living in their everyday work.

What is Divine Living?

Divine Living is a provider of Medicaid Home and Community-based services for people with developmental disabilities in Nebraska and Iowa. They offer residential and day services with a person-centered approach that accommodates individual needs, wants, and goals. They have staff available 24/7 to assist with daily activities and provide medication support, and they are certified and trained to meet individual needs.

The Divine Living group home allows participants to receive assistance from staff around the clock with activities of daily living, such as medication administration, and person-specific support, including getting them out into the community.

Divine Living focuses on advocating for the clients and giving them a choice.

The company’s leaders, DaShawn and Tiffany McGary, also mother and son, founded Divine Living two years ago.

We love that we are able to connect individuals enrolled in services with great direct support staff and specialists. We truly have our individuals’ best interests at heart and take the time to hear out their needs, wants, goals and preferences. We work really hard for everyone who is affiliated with our organization to have what they need to be successful,” said DaShawn.

How NEF helped

A year ago, in January 2022, the McGarys were working from their homes, doing their best to serve a growing number of clients. That’s when they approached NEF and applied for funding to open a day center, which now doubles as their office.

The funding and training resources enabled Divine Living to expand its services from there. DaShawn says the company has already reached its financial projections. In fact, he says they have seen a 10x increase in profits, and they have plans to expand further to serve those with developmental disabilities.

He and his mom Tiffany, as well as the other family members on staff, have varied work backgrounds and skills, and they are united in their desire to impact and nurture each person they encounter positively. NEF is proud to be a part of the accomplishments to date and continues the journey for Divine Living.
